English Velocipede

c.1869 English Bone-Shaker Velocipede Bicycle - £3,800

c.1869 English Bone-Shaker Velocipede Bicycle - £3,800

A nice example of an early English Velocipede bicycle also known as a 'Bone Shaker' for obvious reasons. This a good riding machine  having been well cared for by the previous custodian and used for various period events in their ownership.  Good tight spokes and fellows for the wheels and a leather strap operates the rear brake by twisting the handlebars. Leg rests out the front of the frame for downhill coasting. Forged frame and forks with wooden handlebar grips with brass ferrules. Brass triangular pedals are adjustable for gearing in the crank holes. Leather covered pan saddle. The maker is currently unknown.

I've seen a lot of velocipede bicycles over the years and this particular bicycle is very good and solid example for riding and enjoying by the next custodian.

Who will be brave enough to ride it to Brighton in November??
