1896 Massey Harris Model No.34 Suspension Racing Bicycle - Sold

A bicycle from the the well known Canadian maker of agricultural tractors  and machinery.  Dating from c.1896 and may have been sold via the UK depot. 54/55 Bunhill Row - London - E.C (see advert in the images. ). This particular model No.34 has rear suspension fitted in the form of a flat steel plate behind the cranks linking the rear forks which flexes and a coil tube suspension under the saddle. This is engraved 'Hygienic Cushion Frame - Patented 1896.'

28" inch wheels with New Departure hubs front and rear - the later being a coaster rear freewheel brake. One piece 1" inch pitch chainset with round cranks and original lightweight pedals. Tan swallow tyres and wooden grips. Preserved and overhauled with original paint and old nickel plated. A cast lamp bracket in fitted.  

The head badge with the makers name is uniquely wrapped around the steerer tube of the frame.  A rare and beautiful bicycle from a time when bicycles ruled the roads. NOW SOLD.
